What inspires you to write?
If you don’t see the book you want on the shelf, write it. – Beverly Cleary
This quote sums up why I write. I love to read. There are weeks when I will read two to three novels, but there is nothing better than the story you create in your own head.
Tell us about your writing process.
Outline, outline, outline! This has been the biggest lesson for me. Through the years, I started and stopped many novels, but never finished because I failed to outline properly. Once the outline is complete, then I get to the fun stuff, writing!
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I don’t talk to my characters but I am there inside the story, like a movie playing over and over again in my mind.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write and/or edit every day! The more you do something the easier it will get. I try to write at least a 1000 words a day.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I happened upon Creativia Publishing when I was still writing my first novel, Cara’s Twelve. They are an independent publisher, and I was impressed with their marketing strategy. I also liked that I get to retain control over my work and rights to the intellectual property.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think we will continue to see an increase in independent writers and publishers.
