Tell us about yourself and your books.:
When I was a little girl, I didn't dream about a prince saving me. I wanted to be strong enough to save myself. This is reflected in my stories with strong heroines. My latest series, Shadow-walkers, is Rock Star meets Supernatural, and in my world, the girls are the rock stars, and they command the supernatural males they love.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don't think so, just coffee and music. LOL
What authors have influenced you?
Ann Rice, Stephen King, Morgan Llywelyn, Evangeline Walton, Mary Stewart, and Lyn Kurland are just a handful of the authors that have influenced me.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes. Don't start writing because you think you can become rich. You will be very disappointed. Only write if you love to do it. Also, learn everything you can about the craft. Just knowing how to string sentences together is not enough. There is so much involved in constructing a good story.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Cut out the backstory from the your first chapter. It's something I see from novice writers.
What are you reading now?
I'm going to start the first book in the Dirty rock star series.
What’s your biggest weakness?
Writing wise? Repetition. I'm always getting called on this by my editor.
What is your favorite book of all time?
That's a hard one to answer. I think it's Confessions of a Pagan Nun, but I forget the author. One of the best books I've ever read. I wish I had written it. LOL
What has inspired you and your writing style?
Reading ancient and medieval history, and stories about all types of mythology–Celtic, Greek, Norse. Plus, some of the authors listed above have inspired my writing style, and I'm inspired by music. I think I look at writing like writing a song. Not sure I can explain that, though.
What are you working on now?
The fourth book in my Shadow-walkers series, Awakening the Fae. All of the books are different because each girl has her own story about how she comes into her unique rune powers and meets her true mate. This fourth book has some time travel and features the Irish Fae. For those not familiar with them, the Lord of the Rings grey elves were based on them.
What is your method for promoting your work?
Social media, Amazon ads, newsletter, and promotion sites like this.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am finishing my Shadow-walkers series and then I don't know what I'm doing next. There may be a spin-off for this series.
How well do you work under pressure?
LOL Not well at all. Too much pressure can kill my creative juices. I like to work at my own pace.
How do you decide what tone to use with a particular piece of writing?
The characters decide. I don't write to any set tone. It's all about the characters and the general story. It can be dark or light. Or both. I'm a huge Joss Whedon fan, and he always has a way of combining these, and I tend to do that in my stories.
